Ric Chan

Ric was one of the all-time surf photographers, from the 60’s right through to the 90’s. Ric still takes a few shots here and there but has basically retired.

I met Ric on the back road at Crescent Head, as Ric has done so many trips over such a long period, he doesn’t remember that trip but as Ric said. Man, I don’t remember what I did last week! If you saw the gold Kombi anywhere or everywhere it was Ric. You never knew where he would turn up?

He has always been a full-on laugh-a-minute larrikin and we had such a ball camped at Big Hill, I have never forgotten that trip. I renewed a friendship with Jack Knight, on that trip, and all these years later have now a friendship with his his brother, Gordon Knight.

I asked Ric if he had any images of Jack or that trip and he apparently lost a lot of images, only to turn up somehow in a scrap yard in WA. I asked if he would allow the museum to showcase these images. To Ric’s credit, he has allowed us to share these images.

Many thanks again Ric Chan & Jim King!!!!

I will ask that you respect his copyright and not copy or publish any of these images, please.
