Barry Bennett Collection

The Bennett family has been one of the stalwarts in the surfing industry. Barry Bennett started making balsa & timber surfboards under his house in 1958 and the Bennett factory has been pumping them out ever since. Barry’s son Greg Bennett is now steering the ship and a big thank you to Greg for sharing his collection. Barry also is the founder of Dion chemicals, manufacturing and distributing, blanks, resin, and fiberglass to the industry for as long as I can remember.

During all the years of manufacturing Bennett’s have had all the top-name shapers and laminators as part of their team. If you needed work, Bennett’s was always there. Below are just some of the boards the Bennett family has produced.

I know I say it a lot and it may sound a bit corny, but without these guys, we wouldn’t enjoy the freedom of surfing the equipment we use today. A big THANK YOU to the whole Bennett family.

Every year Bennetts holds an old Mal day, to display all the old boards that are gathering dust in the factory. This is a sample of the board’s Barry & Greg have stored away, so if you see the ad for the old mal day put it in the diary as they always invite some of the legends that have passed through the factory.

Check out the photos in the events section. Bennetts Old Mal Day.

sadly Barry passed away and we lost a true legend, but his legacy lives on with his son Greg and Grandson Tom. RIP Barry.
