Terry Mervin Stories & Photos

No One Surfed in the 60’s
Terry Mervin, is one of the ‘No Ones’, and ok surfer, an ordinary bloke, that no-one’s ever heard of,
but who surfed in the 60’s and still surfs 60 years later.
From a raw novice at Manly, to surfing serious surf with giants – men and waves – at the Bower, to
the quarter finals of the Bells Easter Contest in 1972, many pictures, many road trips to uncrowded
spots – telling many stories of the 60’s surfing experience – the stories of many of us who were

‘No-ones’.

By winter 1963 we were ready, but there was a rumor that there’d been a death at the Bower, so we were a bit iffy. Then on a smaller day, we just went out. Here’s some of our crew, plus a guy called Russel King, who we got to know and surf with a lot. (Last photo surfing past Terry Gilchrist

These are a pictorial story of the early years of Terry’s surfing. Amazing to see these images that without Terry’s generosity we would never see! Thank you Terry Mervin.
